Lilith By George MacDonald – A Story that Sticks

Book Cover: Lilith By George MacDonald – A Story that Sticks

Don’t you love a story that really sticks? Even with all its verbosity and diversions into whale anatomy, does not the obsession of Ahab yet haunt, or the tragedy of Oedipus harrow? Neither will readers soon forget Mr. Vane. In a mythopoeic struggle of self determination, grappling with the nature of evil and fathoming the power of two kinds of death, Lilith's protagonist steps into a fantasy world on a pilgrimage that will not leave its reader's imagination or understanding of the material world unchanged. Critics may not fete MacDonald's syntax, a writing style which is at times decorated with generous helpings of ornamental flourish, but they cannot long revile a story which rings of truth.
